There’s a similar relationship with self. E.g. caring more about being seen as amazing than being amazing.

The surface level stuff isn’t “bad” since it involves improving communication and better communication solves a *lot* of issues.

It’s just that it’s tempting to take shortcuts that only improve the perception of things. If the gap between fake it and make it becomes too big it’s easy to end up losing the plot.
