But is history always written by the 'winners'? Here in the States there is Native American/indigenous history, African American history, Asian American history (e. g., 19th century violence against Chinese American immigrants in California, internment of Nisei after 12/7/41).
If history is written by the winners, then trying to understand the world by studying history is to side with the winners by "thinking like them."

There is also the history of the Holocaust/Shoah, a really violent, sordid, stomach turning business during 1938--1945. What did those six million people and also other millions of Roma/Sinti win? I ubdersrand your point but I don't think history always are written by 'winners'
