It's actually both simple and difficult to understand 'bad' or 'evil'. The trick is to have 2 mental models, a 'good' one and a 'bad' one. To understand evil is to understand what 'good' looks like from evil's perspective.

Take "Necromancy". Raising and summoning the dead feels "evil", yet from the POV of the necromancer it's more like Love of Reading. Ideas of dead people influence you and do battle with the ideas of other people.
