The difference between heartless and heartful competition is the competitors caring about each others confidence. To be beaten by someone who has demonstrated this caring doesn't feel bad, it often feels great.

The Universe and "I" are in a constant battle. Reality and that which witnesses reality. The Witness often feels small and helpless before hurricanes and wildfires and death and death.

Yet I'd say they're evenly matched. The Witness has consciousness. Compared to that, Reality is a blind thrashing beast.
Show this thread -
When the Witness desires Full Domestication of Reality it takes the place of the Universe. It acts as a Terrible Master because it tries to be too much for too many things. It tries to be Literally Everything but cannot do that while simultaneous Witnessing Literally Everything.

Yet when the witness IS fully domesticated its eyes glaze over and it disappears.
Show this thread -
The witness can only appear in a state of tension between the act of domestication or the act of being domesticated. Domestication here defined as the stripping of wildness/chaos/unpredictability (e.g. becoming an API)

A Lost Witness is that which is unsure whether or not it is in the process of domestication or being domesticated. It has no sense of rightness or wrongness. Competition is what clarifies this by creating a master/student divide.
Show this thread -
Even though in one match the divide is small, it creates a giant spanning hierarchy that points in a specific direction of Quality, creating an axis with which to clearly mark master/student.

When you're in the mastery stream, going w/ the flow is taking up responsibility. When you're in a student stream, it's being humble. It's good to be able to switch gears flexibly and correctly. Sometimes people get stuck in one gear.
Show this thread -
Arrogant people for example in their minds are taking up massive amounts of responsibility. They feels themselves Atlas, holding up the world, and so can justify anything.
Show this thread -
The smaller the world to someone, the more easy it is to be arrogant. Arrogance itself is not bad. It holds together the boundary of the World at its edge. Chaos is turned away sharply and without explanation.
Show this thread -
Arrogance is also a necessity to keep groups together. If the whole World to a President is “My Country", that's a selfish and myopic view. YET, that country's people would select such a person to lead the country.
Show this thread -
People want someone who can make shady deals and get more for less. No one really wants a selfless leader for the country. "We will all live in straw huts and give everything we have away" doesn't rally the crowd so much.
Show this thread -
Arrogance is needed for wanting more and it's wanting more that keeps a group alive. Hunger for Something is the core Goal that keeps a group together and coherent. Without tension there is no Witness and without witness there's nothing to see.
Show this thread -
When arrogance reaches divinity it becomes confidence. The hunger becomes a hunger for life rather than a hunger for a specific "goodie" of life.
Show this thread -
Arrogance calls from one direction. You must be able to conquer it and turn it into confidence. Slavishness call from the other. You must conquer it and turn it into humility.
Show this thread -
Self love is the necessary purification step for each. It enters the competition to "See where I'm at" in order to "See who I am." It's curious, it has nothing to prove. Winning and losing provide the same information.

Someone you beat is just as helpful as someone who beats you. You give thanks to your teachers and you give thanks to your students. Both point you on your way.
