I actually think deep down, we all want to be with someone of the same race. Like our opposite gender parent, or our anima/animus. Trauma obscures this and creates other preferences. A healing of the trauma returns you to the original desire. Self-love through romance.
I think it's more about what race correlates to. e.g. your "mother culture" is very correlated with your literal mother. I'd also make "be w/ someone" specific to "start a family w/ someone". Then you have some sort of cultural meme self-propagation thingy.
