2/ Machiavelli gets a little unfairly demonized I think. He was ultimately more of a pragmatist that was living through a period of huge instability.

5/ From what little I have read of the CCP, the end goal is not to have a brief period of authoritarianism that transitions to a more republic form of government so, obviously, major differences but seems like there is something interesting there.
