The difficult moral conundrum is that there are many benefits as well. Most dogs probably wouldn't want to live like wolves just like most humans wouldn't want to homestead or live like hermits despite the theoretically increased freedom.

I was thinking of dogs with separation anxiety who can’t be left alone. Surviving and stable food supply, but at what cost? Also, most city dogs depend on their owners to be able to pee, so for basic bodily function.
