Lack of physical touch eventually kills because "Other" as a source of warmth and comfort loses its calibration. Without calibration, "Other" by default is always considered cold, aloof, and alien. Touch grounds.

To "let of your earthly tether" doesn't allow you to fly. You're supposed to learn to fly first before letting go of your earthly tether. Imagine you forcefully cut through your earthly tether by leaving all friends & family behind as if they were dead. ---
