The expert "sees the way". A priest is someone who does (or should do) this role very well. Parents and other authority figures (like presidents) are expected to see farther than yourself.

To "see the way" means to see the possible *through* the impossible. It doesn't vanquish difficulty by bashing through it but by showing everyone which rocks to grab onto, which paths to follow, which berries to eat, etc..

Everything is done yourself so it's "easy". You see that it doesn't require a superhero to do what you thought was impossible.

Though often times the guide is taken for granted. The once mountain climber, high on victory, decides to become a sherpa and leads a whole group to death.
