I bought a 13 year old girl a Walter Isaacson book as X-mas gift. Maybe she'll read it in the future or give it to her future boyfriend, hopefully planting some useful ideas in them. I don't see anyone except me sees that.
The bests gifts are personally meaningful but incomprehensible to the giftee. Like when a crow gives you a shiny thing or a cat gives you a dead mouse. That way it's cute. 100% purified of pragmatic concerns like money.
