Pain no longer points the way. It becomes a masochistic fetish. Each moment in life becomes a desperate competition to see "who can bear the most pain."
Thought of a better simpler non-political example: It's difficult just like wishing well on a pimple on your face is difficult. It's "part of you" and a manifestation of countless things you can't control or know about, yet still, annoying and very unlovable.

Both examples touch on the difficulty from different angles. One is physically uncomfortable, a small reminder of death of the body. One is an affront to morality, an early sign of death of society. To deny Decay is to say "no take! only yin!"
