The ideas of "Feelings of Inferiority", "Oversocialization", "Power Process", "Surrogate Activites", and the interplay between Freedom/Technology/Power can lend a lot of clarity to what's happening nowadays IMO. I don't think it's influential though, at least not in my circle.
