The reason art can be monetized is because it can't be packaged, branded, and sold. It can be packaged is because it's linked to the 'infinity' of reality.

Often that link is tenuous. E.g. it's a connection to the soul of the creator. By slicing through that connection, the link to the infinite is severed and the thing can be sold.

That is, if you destroy the idea that "the finger pointing to the moon is not the moon" then you have 2 discrete things from the previously infinite. The pointing finger and the moon.

The "Pointer" is that which can be sold to those on the journey of life. Pointers are bought to continue the journey to the final destination of God. No expense is spared if it is thought to continue the pilgrimage.

The marketing arm of a business is that which explains how these pointers are used. Usually by connecting it with some sort of happiness.

What makes a pointer profitable is how easily it can be marketed. Many math expressions are compact and 'beautiful' to those who can see what the pointer points at, but the marketing techniques of today can't "sell" math.

The closest are cultural education systems like those in China/Korea/Japan/India that prize math/engineering/etc... But even then it's a pointer to a pointer to a pointer. The goal is a good job for the goal of money for the goal of happiness

With this model you can then "rank" art. The less easily you can slice it up, the more "divine" it is. Something like Yosemite or the Grand Canyon can be sliced up by charging for admission. Something like Love is even more difficult to slice up.

Access to "God" is surprisingly easy to monetize since it's considered so large that most people look for an intermediary like a priest or a guru.

The desire to hold the moon in the palm of the hand often creates some strange effects. E.g. forcing your kid to learn piano, study to suicide, ecstasy pills, cheating, fake painting, instagram addiction, etc...

They're a form of idolatry. Attributing divinity to a picture or a shadow of the moon rather than to the moon itself. Like worshipping a picture of the finger of the one who was pointing.

At least worship of the one who points had *some* truth to it. The issue with a photograph is that there's no information in it whatsoever. Depending on how you place it it can point *anywhere*.

Maybe that's why cats are cool. It's not as easy to "demagnetize" their compass and have them fully align to our personal ideals like dogs. Yet they also seem to have an internal consistency rather than random chaos. They seem to point to ... something....
