If you can convincingly say "I'm choosing god over you", you can maintain the friendship. Otherwise it's seen as betrayal.

That is, "I'm leaving for a different part of the world" is interpreted as "I'm leaving this world of ours". The concept of 'god' is whatever unites into a common world.

It's somewhat non-sensical since everyone knows that there is literally only one earth or one reality. Yet if the subjective difference is too large, other physical or mental spaces feel like hostile and alien worlds.

"World" is synonymous with "Home" at an early change. Thoughts like "The world is safe." or "The world wants me here." allow for a happier life.

The parents have a role of expanding the concept of "Home". As you zoom out, it's possible to have tribe, community, state, country, etc... become "Home". (There's also 'home' based on individual identifiers like gender, race, job, economic status, etc..)

Yet the child as an individual also must eventually touch the border between Home and World and learn to navigate the world. Parents are limited in how big they can expand the feeling of home. (Especially if they never had it themselves)

Money and the accumulation of it is a very good attempt at this. With the protocol of money it's possible nowadays to explore huge swathes of the world or have it delivered to you.

This is limited to physical movement and physical goods though. Shows like Parts Unknown and youtube vloggers offer a glimpse into experiences that money can't buy.
