Responsibility grants power but ties you down. Per Jordan Peterson's spiel, responsibility is also THE source of meaning. However, Not Needing Meaning is the ultimate freedom.

The cost is much higher than most people realize though b/c of how much you must renounce. Is there a modern day equivalent to giving up all worldly possessions and living by begging? (It doesn't seem to be literal homelessness... surviving purely on Patreon seems closer...)

The thing about saying "I don't give a fuck." when you haven't and haven't conquered the(your) world is night and day. To do so naively is to pretend to be enlightened and is a path to nihilism. The Dark Side form of freedom.

I think Peterson has done a lot to prevent this destructive nihilism, especially for young men. "You don't care because you unable to bear suffering. You're weak. Get strong. I will help."

The reason I suspect the message can feel hateful at times is because it makes suffering an inevitable part of reality. It's the same message "Life is suffering", but delivered by a Strict Father archetype and feels mean rather than a Smiling Buddha.

It is also anti-feminine in a way because masculine energy is far better suited for taking on pain and suffering. (What culture so some undetermined extent is how much yin/yang energy is infused into each XX or XY baby)

Avatars of the Masculine are judged and ranked by how much suffering they can endure (and dish out...) by Avatars of the Feminine who judge and rank this way precisely because Suffering is the Ultimate Enemy to them.

For Yang energy, the "Obstacle is the Way" while for Yin energy it's about an existence without unnecessary suffering.

Some common messages that yin/yang try (and fail) to communicate to each other: yin -> yang: You're obstacles are fake. Sports is fake. Your career is fake. Do something REAL. yang -> yin: You have no idea how much Suffering this involves. You should be more grateful.

Expanding on this a bit: "My suffering is real." "Yeah but it's fake." "No, it's real." "Nuh uh, it's fake." The misunderstanding: Fake means "meaningless within the eyes of god, the suffering is self-created". Real means "real to me, my friends, society, etc...".
