What are the best written arguments against polyamory, as it's practiced by smart people in 2020, being possible in principle or good for the people practicing it? I'd appreciate links to serious essays. I'm going to list some of the lazy and bad arguments below for contrast.

What’s the family like in polyamorous relationships? I’ve noticed for mixed culture mono couples, not having kids actually avoids a lot of conflict that can come from competing traditions. Similar to how hybrid animals tend to be sterile.

Within a monoculture stemming from a strong tradition the child-bearing script is strong and unquestioned. Diluting the script increases freedom for sure but at a species or society level it’s still unclear how this affects the majority of people.
