Gentrification seems to be similar. Money isn't used in a smart way but more like a bludgeon to cram yourself into a front-row seat. Like everyone standing up to see better it raises the cost for everyone without any actual benefits.

In theory those who sell can use the additional cash from selling to live more creatively and imaginatively. In practice, a rising cost of living means that your lifestyle can become unsustainable over the longer term despite your initial cash surplus.

You're 'forced' to sell even though on paper you're getting a great deal with your property going 10x up in price. there's also the hugely important factor of friends, family, etc...
