Ever notice how you can just instantly stop shivering when cold if you put your mind to it? I suspect this 'muscle' or something similar is the same mechanism that allows you to 'just be happy'.

After consistently doing pullups for a few months it feels like my back muscles have found a new 'default' that isn't as slouched over. I wonder if doing 'happiness reps' allows you to slowly swap into a default of an optimist?

There are 2 main barriers to entry though. One is being able to do the atomic action. Just like you can't do pullup sets if you can't do even one you have to work on other exercises until you can go through the full range of motion for one "happiness rep"

The other is realizing that you yourself wanting to change is the blocker itself. For this one, depression can help... If you follow depression deep enough it takes you to a cliff. At the precipice it is made clear that whether you step off the cliff or step back is a *choice*.

Once the choice mechanism is made bare you no longer have any excuses.

A full happiness rep is probably composed of a few smaller movements: Gratitude, Appreciation for Beauty, Releasing Anger, etc... E.g. a gratitude journal can be like doing one assisted pullup a day.
