Imagine the most annoying brattiest little kid or teenager. Imagine having to adopt that kid. Feel how difficult it would be to love this child. Now realize that the child was you.

The love spell is important because having it cast on you is the only way to fill up your MP. Without it, there is no magic in the world.

Ever since the Great Secularization though the total magic has been decreasing in the world, even though the spells have become greater and greater.

This was when the spell/skill-point grand market was started. Players could sell future skill points for spellbooks they didn't have. This effectively lowered their total skill point ceiling meaning they could never learn the final spells.

While there was some shady business like selling spellbooks to the wrong classes, or selling fake bullshit-job spells, overall it allowed great spellbook proliferation. Where previously you had to rely on a friend to cast a spell for you, now you could just do it yourself.

Players who were orphaned from their guilds could also have access to mentors and teachers in the form of these books. Usually they were from war torn regions where their framework of magic was fully destroyed.

However, this led to weakened community which cascaded over generations into a society built up by individually relationship-weak families. Since these networks were the original method by which spells were learned, the broken families drove the younger generation to the market.

The market acted as a surrogate teacher with good intention. Like any system though, it was incapable of imagining a better world where things were better when not part of the system. The more the market grew, the more it justified itself needing to grow.

The Old Spells are dying. Those who can still cast them are dwindling. Many have the knowledge, but not enough MP to demonstrate. They ask us to believe without proof. They ask us to have Faith in Wisdom and so drive away all the students.

The system is inherently self-destructive as Love will always dwindle to 0 over time within a closed system It's only saving grace is that as magic dwindles the Touch of God events occur more often due to the increase in Death/Pain/Fear.

When an old system's fractures cause it to blow open, the old system finds itself within and so becomes, a larger system. This is the "Death and Rebirth" spell which returns to you all your skillpoints to re-allocate. You also lose all your classes so you have to pick them again
Show this thread -
The Death and Rebirth spell is rarely cast because it's cost is all of your remaining MP. It's too dangerous to cast unless you have someone who can cast Love on you to restore your mp. Though, it will still work even if your MP is at 0 (depression).

Those who have a reliable source of love can constantly cast Death and Rebirth thus giving them greater growing potential than others. They are seen as "heroic", constantly facing Death and becoming stronger with each encounter.

However this is surrogate worship. It is worshiping the usage of magic rather than the source of magic. We rightfully exalt in the right direction (the Hero) but not as the right source of the light (the source of Love).

The heroes even often give away their secret. They'll tell us how they owe so much to their parents, their family and friends.

We always misinterpret though. We think aspiring to and becoming the hero will earn us Love while it is Love that creates the hero.

This is a common trap for the Warrior class. It can cast "Soldier On" repeatedly, pushing away Death events. Its aversion to Death prevents it from casting Death and Rebirth which is necessary to gain the Hero class. (Hero requires you to move ALL your points from Warrior)

The Hero class, also known as the Father class has a suite of spells to to create miniature reality fields. E.g. "House Rules" "Dispel Darkness" "Create Adventure" "Tell Story" "Defend Family"

The Father class, by creating a safe bounded environment can allow a player to fully level up their Mother skill tree to learn the love skill. Entire societies used to be driven by this dynamic to feed their magical needs.

The Father and Warrior can both cast "Inspire". "Inspire" was considered good enough and many Warriors stopped taking the plunge into Hero. Eventually though, Faking Passion Syndrome struck and Inspire became weaker and weaker.
Show this thread -
Warriors had to add more and more points into Inspire and Lead to compensate for their reduced efficacy. This led to weaker and weaker Warriors as they had no actual battle skills anymore.
Show this thread -
Family units now required the other character to add into the Warrior skill tree as well, slowing down and often even making impossible, the ability to skill up to the Love spell.
