Positive and negative experiences can both resonate through this web. A neutral mind scar viewed through different filters is what we normally call "memory".

If you've ever had something good happen and a exhilarating feeling of "it was all worth it" you've experienced how having a negative experience can actually contribute to a more positive future experience.

Like losing 9 times in a row only to win at the 10th. All those previous scars or 'failures' now re-crystallize in support of a new happy memory. A failure at the 11th similarly feels crushing because of the longer history.
