It’s a bit of both I think. What women judge as ‘good’ creates those bounded layers for men, creating a direction of ‘goodness’. Men’s tastes depend on women, women’s tastes depend on the world. The ‘world’ is created by powerful men for the most part.
What screws up the value compass for both sexes is when powerful men refuse to take up the father role for the sake of more sex for themselves. They teach women to value money and status (themselves) rather than other virtues and that affects the downstream value hierarchy.
