The focus on "being real", on keeping other people "real", and on "authenticity" itself found in the poor are all born out of the intense and entirely valid awareness of the fact that poverty totalizes the consciousness of its victims, artificializing them. Poor people are fake.

On the contrary, the poor are too real, it's the haute bourgeois who's fake. Poverty is the natural state of man, nature is the most authentic thing. The haute bourgeois must buy in his authenticity from outside.

There's a flash of connection when you see someone take off their mask. "Ah, you were just pretending 4 them too." Vs those who just don't have to wear masks b/c they are powerful. True poverty is also free. Freedom lies at both poles. The Mask is for the journey.
