Whatever you live by, is what you'll die by. If it can't kill you, then you can't really live. Obviously a sword works. But try something else.

Swords and Babies are the traditional objects by which 'men' and 'women' lived and died by. "Being Right" is a false way to live because you can only die a pseudo ego-death. It can be a "right" way to die though if you truly die with an ego death. That you die to your identity.

This is to have a beginner's mind, a mind that changes moment to moment because it dies moment to moment. Because it was ready to give up preconceptions.

"Being Right" is in many ways the opposite of dedication to the truth. It's the false path that's looks very real, and feels very seductive.

An idea that weakens considerably without threat of death is "country". If you can't die for your country then you can't live for it. Without the threat of death or the presence of "enemy", a country ceases to exist.

The value of a thing exists in proportion to how ephemeral and fragile it is. If it's immortal and forever you may as well take it for granted. Literally that's the intent of making something granted.

Sacredness = Potential Longevity * Self Destructfulness (or self-sacrificingness) A flame is sacred. It constantly destroys itself to BE but can become eternal.

A fine china dining set is sacred. It can last forever. But it is not infinitely sacred because it lacks self-destructfulness. A baby is sacred. It has a whole human life ahead of it and a perilous journey to get to the end.

Aside. The death drive is to follow your life, the path that leads to your death.

Flower are also sacred. When their fragility is replaced for artificiality, they lose their sacredness and just become visual ornamentation. This loss is felt, but cannot be described without a shared language with which to discuss God.

The greatest disadvantage of losing religion is the web of concepts, stories, and terms with which you could talk about the divine indirectly. Every idea become petrified over time, losing their ability to channel the divine because it is out of touch with reality.

A subtle and nuanced story full of analogy at one period of time, becomes a ridiculous story at another. It can only be literally interpreted and usually is ridiculous when done so.

Martyrs imbue things with divinity by the act of greatest self-destruction. By giving up all their potential, they create a spark. Whether or not it catches fire is one thing. That for a moment, a wildfire was possible IS.

Suicides also release this energy. They can create the greatest change at a family level and a society level.
