The primal weakness of an institution is that any useful information that arises from the world and not the institution becomes a threat. It threatens the narrative that the system is the source of all good.

"Passion" is a euphemism for this unstoppable force but most people just fake it. Systems that fill with this type of energy tend to lack courage.

Rallying around ideals never really works out because every person has a different interpretation of that ideal. Rallying around specific things allow you to keep honest conversation open as there’s less chance of “exposing” yourself to others.

In rhythm games there’s an “S” level that’s higher than “A”. Maintaining a high combo is necessary to get such a high score. An A score and an S score can have similar accuracy but wildly different scores due to how the errors are distributed.

Freedom is dangerous precisely because it is never having to do work for anybody. Without these anchors of necessity you are no longer needed or necessary for the world.

The loser who dies happy for the victor is the source of happiness. This Most Difficult of things to be happy about is actually the only True source of happiness. This is the source of a 'divine' or 'sacred' feeling.

When you kill god you increase the pressure on kings to ridiculous extents. Being cursed to be human yet having to be lived up to as a god will inflate the ego and self-deception powers of anyone just as a pufferfish expands when danger is close.

I suspect most video game addiction is not play addiction but work addiction. A sense of “I have to get better” situated within a social context with tangible measurable markers of progress.

Misogyny probably arises from how a woman cannot directly make a man love himself. “He” sees “Her” as an obstacle in his quest for love.

A corporation is similar to a mob. It's a vehicle with which to diffuse responsibility with and do what is normally impossible.

Every difficult thing that takes time has a growth curve similar to body-building. Skill accumulation for piano, or understanding a subject, etc... all grow in the same way you build muscle.

"You are your own worst enemy" is the spiritual equivalent of the modern "You have ADD/Depression/some other mental disorder." Regardless of why the wolf is in your mind, the wolf is always in _your_ mind.

Power within a company is similar to a plant or pet you raise for many years. The importance and influence over your life is specific to your relationship with the thing, not intrinsic to the thing itself. No one else cares about your plant.

It seems quite ridiculous to economically have poorer people suffer first. It's like sending in the meat-shield before the knights. It's something you do only to slaves. Whoever suffers first has early insight into the problem.
