In rhythm games there’s an “S” level that’s higher than “A”. Maintaining a high combo is necessary to get such a high score. An A score and an S score can have similar accuracy but wildly different scores due to how the errors are distributed.

What it “feels” like is long periods of flow. A series of mistakes can knock you out of it but you build back up to it. Versus if the mistakes are evenly distributed. You never build up to flow states.

This is similar to an A student being able to memorize and regurgitate the right information but they never “get” it.

In work/life, S players and A players don’t differ primarily on output over a long period of time. For all practical purposes they produce the same. The A player can even be preferred because of higher predictability and consistensy.

The primary difference is that the S players actually can actually enjoy what they do. That makes all the difference.
