Roles like policeman, prison guard, soldier, etc... are indoctrined with the belief that it’s ok not to be cared about because it’s ok not to care. This makes dealing with blood of the “other”
They are given power and promised to be cared about at the cost of only being cared about within their identity as part of a group. A group that is defined by the enemy and so must create them to exist.

It becomes impossible to care about such individuals when they become too sharp. You can’t get close.

The same lack of empathy we show to our soldiers and policeman is the same way we write off the brutes of “other” people. “We just have to invade. We just have to kill them. The price is high, but there’s no other way.”
