A homogenous culture leads to increased fear of the mob. It’s sometimes an advantage in that you can quickly roll out and pull back large scale measures because of “mob trust”. Everyone knows what would lead to riots and when “for the greater good” is no longer an excuse.
More individuated systems have increased danger of temporary measures being locked in via a foothold and slowly gaining influence.
Every defense mechanism is basically coordinated and focused anger. When it’s unfocused and distributed there’s less damage from the anger itself but also less protection.
Racism and other forms of concentrated hate via shallow external markers is useful because they can coordinate this anger. Sometimes this anger is all peole have left and hate towards other groups is their only way out.
