Faith is only evident from an external perspective. From within, that faith is their reality. Reality cannot be directly approached as you always must apply the lenses of a witness doing the observation.
What the flat earthers get right is that even something like a round earth is a belief of faith for most people. In a way they’re more scientific as they want to intuitively fell things for themselves rather than accept blindly.

They miss the purpose of faith though. It’s to stop delving into the infinite details of reality and focus in an agreed upon direction. Mental models are valued by their usefulness.

Questioning a mental model is great as an individual exercise but not that useful socially when it disperses consciousness and causes it to look backwards.

Faith is useful as a ways of maintaining optimism towards the future, the fundamentally unknown, be it the specter of death or the shock of black swan events.

It is damaging when it tries to stop time in a sense, or even go backwards. Such behavior is similar to wanting to crawl back into the safety of the womb.

True faith is stupid by modern sensibilities. It steps into the death (the only guaranteed thing about the future) with eyes wide open and a happy grim. But hey... who knows...
