1/ Sales feels slimy because it's doing something that treats others as means to an end even though it's unnecessary. Its nature is virtuous though. It's the primal connection of collaboration. It's marketing how you can collaborate at the 1:1 level.
When sales people sell what they believe in they make that 1:1 connection of treating others as an end. Mostly though, they're used as a brute force marketing ploy. They pass through the connection often w/o believing it.

They're scripted robots treat other people like robots. Angry that their target robots won't obey the script like they have. Lawyer jokes work in a similar way. They mock the lack of humanity, our element of unpredictability.
