What is the most accessible way of explaining the idea that "volatility clusters"? It is such an important notion, but not sure the best way to talk about it.
Some slack and tension model. Tying systems together allows you to amortize tension across space and time at the cost of tautness synchronizing in time. Also explains the complacency and parasitic effects that lead to such a state in the first place.
