Random memory re: “reality has a surprising amount of reality”: one of the spaces my band and I used to rehearse in was in an industrial building, & there was a textile(?) operation next door staffed by Chinese women. We’d catch glimpses of them working while waiting for our turn

I was just thinking about how that detail has nothing to do with the music, and yet feels like a notable bit in the memory? Makes it more memorable, even. I’d love to hear your stories or anecdotes about this sort of slightly(?) incongruent detail!

In elementary school I remember thinking while walking up the stairs with my classmates “I’ll remember this for ever purely because I have this idea of remembering it forever.”

i was a kid leaning in the doorframe of my grandmothers kitchen, looking at my feet and decided to remember this forever. also decided to commit an old dusty fry trapped in the radiator of my school to eternal memory.

I was a kid in the back seat of a car driving down a dusty dirt road in Arizona to visit my brother who trained horses. Saw a vulture flying and thought I'd remember this forever.

When I was about 9 I was on the way to the mosque when I noticed a very old woman begging on the sidewalk (not uncommon where I’m from). I thought, a memory of this is being formed and I will not forget it. I remember it every now and then.

Walking to the shed as a 8yr old, and 2 Mirage jets went over at about 500 ft( seemed like 50), can still recall the sound and being ‘stuck’ in place.

When I was maybe seven I decided I would name my firstborn son Charizard, and had the same thought about remembering it forever. Then I was worried I would forget, so I made it permanent by... Writing the idea on a Post-It note.

That was extremely permanent, as it turns out, as it led to a story you remembered, and later related on Twitter, raising the very real possibility that your childhood ambition to name your first child Charizard will outlive young Charizard himself.
