Recipe for creativity: Collaboration without consensus. It combines: 1) The serendipity of random ideas. 2) The singular vision of a single creator. Collaboration gives you new ideas. But consensus destroys creativity. Trust the ultimate judgement of a clear-eyed visionary.

Amazons philosophy of “disagree and commit” is a great example of this — you can debate furiously about the right thing to do, then the person in charge makes a call and you all get behind it

just mentioning that it’s often misused as a silencing weapon. E.g. steve jobs stories and micro management. I think the differentiating factor is the followers following out of choice vs coercion of some sort.

In the U.S. the culture of being able to walk away means that leadership must be “true”. In say China/Japan there’s more force involved, e.g. strict traditional protocol, respect for seniors, elders, etc...
