Can anyone think of examples where it’s in a person or group’s best interest to not know something, and so they diligently never go find out?

One example is social hierarchy in groups: while the alpha and the punching bag might be knowable, it’s very important that the relative status of everyone in the middle be unknowable - if it were known, the lower half would feel like losers and the upper half would want to leave

Relationships come to mind. So is not having estimates for tasks, especially creative work.
