What level of specificity should I limit myself to in my book, to be specific enough that ppl understand what I'm talking about, but not so specific that it gets outdated within months?

You should model it as a problem of generating maximum mindshare. Super specific will have great initial velocity of increasing understanding while being super abstract will be a slow burn but perhaps with greater total mindshare.

Issue with the slow burn is that it may be generations before it takes off so you wouldn’t be able to reap what you sow. Plus it may not actually reach the critical mass for a self sustaining slow burn.
