"I imagined myself, composed and wise, dispensing high theory to distraught women grappling with the immediate aftermath of sexual violence. This turned out to be just one more rape fantasy." Rachel Fraser from the new issue

So as you can probably tell from my Twitter bio, I was recently tapped as Literature Editor at and curated the fiction in the latest issue, which just dropped. I wanted to take the opportunity to highlight the two amazing pieces we picked & their authors. (THREAD)

Becca Rothfeld with the Rooney take I've been waiting for: "So is she normal, or isn’t she? The truth is, the book fulfills a ubiquitous romantic fantasy precisely because it can’t decide. Who hasn’t sometimes wished that their normalcy were exceptional?"

That's right, we've released the *ENTIRE* issue online: Becca Rothfeld finally putting all of our inarticulate seething about Sally Rooney into words, x 2, Toril Moi, fiction by Daša Drndić... But if you read only one thing, trust me and read 's on Ninagawa

I think is right that a lot of what has made liberalism so unpalatable to so many younger people has less to do with its ideology than with the smug, uncritical style that marks so many of its powerful figureheads.

Becca Rothfeld said everything I think about Sally Rooney's novels, and a number of things I didn't think but now do. "At first she is broken, but then she is rehabilitated by the corrective force of Connell’s vanilla love" is an example in 1st category.

Really grateful & delighted that published this excerpt from Daša Drndić’s DOPPELGÄNGER. I suspect that if American critics read more literature in translation we’d have fewer, shorter conversations about whether “Cat Lady” was good or not.

This plane has attempted and failed to land several times, we’ve been diverted to a black site and on the way I started a vom chain reaction. The only thing that could cheer me up is archive sales—back issues from $4.99(!!) and this great deal right here 👇

just pointed out to me that this tweet is delightfully ambiguous between being too tired to explain basic demographics to scientists and being too tired to bring our country above replacement by having more babies and now I'm dying. 😂😂😂😂😂
