It has a thin scaffolding holding up a series of setpiece visuals that are so overwhelming that they swallow anything that's happening

Strange is an asshole who is preternaturally gifted at everything he does. He saves the world when nobody else can. The end.

Dr. Strange doesn't work as a visual spectacle because it's visual gibberish. There's no anchors, no visual rules. Shit just kinda happens.

Okay. New York skyline through a kaleidoscope. But everyone just sort of stumbles around in it.

The entire plot also hangs on trying to make drama of what will happen to Strange when we know goddamned well what will happen.

Strange obviously isn't going to die and he isn't going to join up with Andross.

No part of this flick works. Wooden characters fall through visually incoherent setpieces until it's time to shrug and end the film.

The last three Marvel flicks I've seen are Ant Man, Civil War, and Dr. Strange. You'd think I'd've learned my lesson by this point.
