Figured out why Stephen Marche is being interviewed today by the CBC. He wrote a bad piece for the Waleus on the massacre in which he mentioned the rumours of an Incel connection and dismissed their significance - saying literally “who cares?”https://bit.ly/2HWwp65

The full quote: “Soon we will be awash in speculation about whether the Yonge Street killer associates himself with this particular brand of stupid and pointless rage. But who cares?”

He later talks about Bissonnette and says : “Does anyone seriously believe that his opinions are anything more than a desire to murder others?”

Huh? What? Why is the Walrus publishing this nonsense?!

I know as a white guy, Marche might not be familiar with being hated and having people want to kill you because of your identity but just an FYI for him and others - it matters. It’s important. We should all care

Why do we allow commentators who are so uninformed to speak authoritatively on these issues? I mean should he have us not care about the men online currently talking about mass rapes and acid attacks?

Is that just a desire to acid attack someone? Or is this the underside of toxic masculinity and rape culture? Because if we can admit we have a problem then we can work to fix it. But if we keep denying that and saying it’s just violent Indivs these things will keep happening.

But I’ve just spent most of my adult life thinking about these things. And so have many other women who are much more educated than me. But why ask any of them to write a piece when you can get such a great hot take. He literally said “who cares”. Direct quote.

Was Marche the dude bro who wrote about how it’s actually bad to read diversely because you should only read voices like your own or you’ll be a garbage writer? Or was some other hack at the Walrus?

I wish I had something even moderately intelligent or thoughtful to say, but really I just keep coming back to “Fuck Stephen Marche, and fuck the Walrus too for good measure.”
