If you've ever tried to test a stateful app in QuickCheck, Hedgehog or any other property-based testing library you'll know it can be seriously difficult! Check out this tutorial for a simple way to test stateful apps using Hedgehog.

For a while I've been thinking: "Wouldn't it be great if our code editors were a bit more proactive and smart?" 🤔 So dusted off my Splash-based Swift editor prototype and built a feature that automatically generates models based on how they're being used. What do you think? 😀

I would very much like for Qt developers to get paid, but restricting LTS backports to paying customers seems sure to cause security problems. Riding the latest releases could be an option, but breakage between versions makes that borderline impossible for smaller labor forces.

I've been trying out this one line patch on emacs today, and it seems to make ligature support much happier. The only problem is that just looking at this little edit is terrifying. sed 's/error ("Attempt to shape unibyte text");/;/g' -i src/composite.c

So, my thoughts on engineering performance management have always been a bit idiosyncratic, but Matt's tweets today have me reflecting, so... storytime. 1/

People should write all kinds of stuff in Haskell to see what sticks. I write compute heavy servers, other people write PL analysis tools. It may never explode in popularity, but that’s impossible to predict. Think of the odd Ruby/Textmate screencast synergy back in the day!

Anyone know anyone working on recycling robots? Esp research on high throughput or highly robust sorting systems. I imagine it has decent overlap with mining systems and agriculture?

My son put his head in a box, and announced that it was his home. He enthusiastically invited me to visit his home, so I squeezed my head into the box next to his. He was thrilled. I was charmed. He sneezed.

At the risk of jumping the gun and ending up disappointed, season 3 of Halt and Catch Fire seems sooo much better than season 2. How does that happen? I quit on the show after S2, and only tried S3 on a whim.

This is an interesting observation. Perhaps you can get steamrolled faster in software, but you can also grow faster if you do survive. 10-20 people in a warehouse still seems like the best work environment to me, but it's hard to make it work in tech.

It's really disappointing when open source applications narrow their focus to distribution by flatpak. I sort of like flatpak, but if you're doing it to avoid problems with your build procedure, then you're digging a hole for your project.

What Amazon is doing to their brand seems totally bazaar 😉. Too often now I use their app to get a price guideline before buying an item in a store.

Apple Arcade is sort of fascinating. There are some remarkably creative, individualistic games, and the price makes it tempting since you can try everything without dealing with the free to play morass. But it’s not in general a PlayStation replacement.

Intel‘s RealSense LiDAR looks great. You’d want at least two on a robot, but both its price and power efficiency make that plausible for a lot of applications. Definitely on my Christmas list if you’re still shopping for me.

I truly wish everyone got to have a good experience with LaTeX. The worst is when someone's only experience is a bad time modifying a template handed off to them. You need to have a thing where you want to tweak how hyperlinks to subfigures are typeset, and it's actually easy.
