Hot take: the capacity for academics to say it all in a footnote is severely underrated in other kinds of writing. I think my dissertation footnotes are better than my actual dissertation.

You only need to start worrying when you have footnotes within footnotes. But don’t listen to me. My ratio of footnotes to text seems the inverse of what it should be...

I second all of this. And would also point out that David Foster Wallace agreed, and basically had no problem endnoting his endnotes so maybe neither should we?
