I thought the US/EU cared so much about HR when I was in high school & prayed Clinton would intervene when the Taliban banned all women from going to school & could beat them for wearing the wrong trouser with a whip in front of my eyes & I couldn’t do anything about it.

It’s likely a theological conversation a much as it is about Islam in the modern world and the changes in women’s roles in Saudi Arabia. I can’t imagine a donor led conversation would be terribly useful.

Donors have conversed with the Taliban for a number of years. Back channels have been open on humanitarian grounds for a number of years. The US, Pakistan & Saudi radicalized a whole population of Afghans 40 years ago. Perhaps it will take 40 years to de-radicalize.
