There were a few datasets put together for specific reports, such as by SIGAR, or the Long War Journal, and media such as BBC and NYT. They usually do district control comparisons. Not sure if there are public datasets, but UN and hum. NGOs track this.

Sadly no, but I also struggle to see how one cld do this accurately. RS/SIGAR maps were hopelessly politicized to the point of being useless & LWG doesn’t capture gvrnc, which far exceeds “control.” Plus, gvt and TB governance overlap so these either/or maps won’t be much use...

I guess the LWJ one is the least bad in terms of estimating control or contestation? But I still don’t love it. Trouble is gvrnc extends far beyond that + shifts so quickly. I don’t really know anyone who a) has the capacity to look at this nationally + b) is actually doing it
