@JJSchroden Hello there, what is the best book you’d recommend to learn about Afghanistan, in a historical, cultural and military perspective ?

How to pick just 1? Perhaps the best I can do is recommend one excellent work: “The Fragmentation of
#Afghanistan” by Rubin & then pass on your ask to others. What say you@BRRubin@mariamamini@Afghan_Policy@OmSamad@a_a_jackson@jmurtazashvili@smithkabul@LaurelMillerICG 1/24 vastausta 0 uudelleentwiittausta 7 tykkäystä -

Fun thread ;) I second the
@BRRubin Fragmentation and the Gopal book. Louis Dupree's 'Afghanistan' is still a handy reference for the basics, and Saikal's work is helpful too. I'm struck by how much, as ever, the big books on Afghanistan are about war. Unsurprising but...1 vastaus 0 uudelleentwiittausta 4 tykkäystä -

Ghani Khan's poetry and satire has taught me more (or was far more enjoyable?) than most academic books. (technically not 'Afghan' I know but still). Go find The Pathan...there's a scanned photocopy floating around the internet

Actually Ghani Khan has written two book on Afghanistan and Central Asia. To be honest, I've not seen his poetry book. I'd love to find hard copies of both of his books mentioned above and his poetry. Can you please assist me to find them? Thanks indeed for the information.

DM me your email address and I can send you what I've got. That said, all I have are photocopies of English translations, but some have the originals (surely better) included
