I'm teaching a course on international humanitarian action at Brandeis. Students are interested in successful case studies of public humanitarian advocacy. Tell me what source I can send to them that best represents a success story.

This is a great question. In my course I teach two advocacy case studies: Somalia/2011 sanctions advocacy and Yemen 2015 advocacy around the blockade and civilian protection. Both examples where humanitarian advocacy helped make terrible conditions somewhat less terrible.

And I think "somewhat improving the awfulness of existing policy" is usually the best-case impact. There's been a lot written around Somalia; less about advocacy on Yemen. I discussed some of the Yemen dynamics in my testimony last spring (page 8 onward). https://docs.house.gov/meetings/FA/FA13/20190306/109038/HHRG-116-FA13-Wstate-KonyndykJ-20190306.pdf …
