I don't really know enough to have an opinion about RMS, but the fact that there are so many people having an opinion about this, who obviously do not know about the history or details of the free software movement, and are not part of it, troubles me.
Enough about the harassment stuff I mean. GNU is an operating system for computers / a collection of software. The GNU project being made up of its programmers. FSF is an org creates licenses, promotes them and owns copyrights to a set of software.
Except that FSF funds and shelters the GNU project. As in any big story, you have to follow the money
