Small update on the PlayStation 5 that has a detachable disc drive - I've heard from two people now that the test kit is in people's hands and it "works flawlessly". We should hear more about it officially soon.

For those asking "what's the point" - I think it's to make manufacturing cheaper by just having one console.
The regular PS5 and regular digital PS5 will cease production by the end of 2023, as covered here:

From my understanding, yeah. The console comes on its own or as a bundle with the disc drive, and you can buy the disc drive separately further down the line/if it breaks

I can't imagine WANTING a disc drive, but it'll be nice to be able to get one for those who have a digital only console....I guess?

Seems like the better decision would be to just release a $99 detachable disc drive for those who bought the all-digital PS5…
