There's probably some really interesting analysis to be done on why so many of these people reject the label of conservatism
-
-
-
On the one hand, after forty years of running the conservative brand into the ground, it lets them rebrand. On the other, it's an appeal to age/authenticity/revealed knowledge that plays to their audience.
-
I think it's more than just a strategic move though, it seems like they have some personal investment in thinking of themselves as being positioned against traditionalism, while somehow working to uphold it.
-
Excellent point. Rebellious authoritarians.
-
just to add on to this, I think that a lot of the "classical liberal" types mythologize being oppressed, and it gives them a "story". they create a world where progressives are "taking over" and they are a counterculture fighting against it.

Dave Rubin the expert on Brazilian media has spoken

He knows the word "Brazil," and that's pretty much the extent of it.

At this point? Paradoxical.

The Last Liberal

If he's the last liberal, does that mean we got rid of the rest of them?

Libertarians and "Classical" liberals often tend to be philo-fascists and crypto-nazis. Far to often has this ilk showed their "hard on" for various types of fascist authoritarians from Franco and Salazar up to Putin and Chinese Regime in Beijing. Bolsonaro is no exception.
-
This is no surprise, if you look at openly alt right figures such as richard spencer, you’ll find that they were all libertarians once
-
"The Libertarian to Extreme Pipeline"
-
Indeed so... I think (although this is not a proven statistical fact) that 90% of the alt-right have been recruited from libertarian ranks.
-
Right, it's not proven but it can happen. I just don't think it's a huge phenomena. I wanna take a guess and say that most were possibly already conservatives.
