it's pretty simple. "technical" people are mostly men, who find it beneath them to develop skills for -- aka are bad at -- non-deterministic tasks (people, marketing, art, etc). saying it's worthless is part of devaluing these skills that usually women bring, and thus women :(

I was a social worker before deciding to go into Tech. I actually chose Tech to have a simpler job. Not to say it's easy, but it's way easier than to try to help people in horrible situations.
