My 12 yo had discovered the hundred year pattern and actually backed it up with historical proof. I think it comforted him to think that if he can come through to the end (whatever that might be) of this pandemic he just might have a chance at a somewhat normal life. Hope he can

This is a good point. When anti-vaxxers cite their freedoms, constitutional rights, and–the whitest thing of all–the Founding Fathers to rail against vaccine mandates, do they know what they're talking about? What if I told you this happens EXACTLY every 100 years? A thread.

TIL that neither anthropologists nor archeaologists (and their related scientific kin) have not found any evidence of barter economies in the way Adam Smith and other economists have historically described them. Yes, goods were swapped for goods, but not in ways described.

Journalist, researcher, psychologist, GP, LGBT org, podcaster, gay bar, sport club, hookup app - literally any cis person or service run by cis people, take their allyship with a heavy grain of salt until they've proven it to you in REAL ways, not just claims/ products/self promo

things that make writers happy - finally figuring out the missing pieces of their story - when they write something clever and shock themselves - being given cake after a long hard day of writing 100 words - when they make readers......cry (look sorry it just makes us happy)

Is there a disasterologist in this novel because I could really use a roadmap for what the hell we’re supposed to do?

I am crying at these responses. And also thinking about how our can help. Who out there is specializes in K-12 education & wants to partner with some epidemiologists to develop covid content? (And who out there wants to fund us to do this?)

"I thought you were mad at me because you didn't respond to my message, and I saw you posting stuff online." Maybe this is a reasonable assumption for people who don't have 10,000 windows and apps open. My notifications are like a dense thicket.

For the love of god please do comprehensive emergency management reform. Surely it is obvious what we’re doing now isn’t working. It does not have to be this way.

There is very clearly a disaster bearing down on the Gulf Coast, and nothing I say or do can fix it. In the next few days, please remember that very rarely did people choose to be trapped there and that very rarely did they choose the government that fails them.

Just remember: “looting” post disasters is not really a thing and insurance will cover it anyway.
