But this is in the context of comparing schemas with one another (what's called "schema resolution" in the spec, cf the link in my tweet), so it feels like "selected" is meaningless here.

Your memory is better than mine, @philderome... but I have a lot of conversions like that... ;)

I think it was a case of I'd like to use magnolia if it supported everything avro4s does already. One use case I'm not sure is supported in magnolia is default value literals.

Do you mean defaults on case class parameters?

      Yes, `case class Foo(name: String = "sam")` Avro4s will support `case class Foo(name: String = Bar.method)` as well but that's probably a use case too far.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to get this working. If Avro4s is already typeclass-based, it might be quite easy.

Almost fully converted avro4s over to magnolia now. What a brilliant project it is!! (magnolia not avro4s :)). I am having issues when I define an implementation for Coproduct, it doesn't seem to get picked up. And @transient isn't picked up as an annotation. Stay tuned.

I've released a snapshot of avro4s powered by magnolia. Only thing not working is recursive schemas. Everything else is working great and some long standing diverging implicit errors are now fixed. Find the snapshot from the badge on the homepagehttps://github.com/sksamuel/avro4s

Do you have an example of a recursive schema which doesn't work?

Yep, https://github.com/sksamuel/avro4s/blob/master/avro4s-core/src/test/scala/com/sksamuel/avro4s/schema/BasicSchemasTest.scala#L53-L56 … set ignore to in, and then run that. Stack overflow. The ADT is the Tree example from magnolia homepage. Very likely I'm just doing something wrong.
