This thread contains some xenophobic slurs and casual mention of mental illness. Still, it's useful to know how easy it is to buy items that broadcast a "location" and connect that with location-based advertising to scam people in a coffee shop.https://twitter.com/buzz/status/1058143928203980800 …

Crazy thing: my friends who run a high traffic coffee shop just found this thing under their bar. It turns out to be a super cheap Chinese Bluetooth LE beacon. pic.twitter.com/4Ns7L9Fhlh

Xenophobic slurs? Casual mention of mental illness?

      "cheap Chinese" item and "crazy".

Language matters. I try not to spread stereotypes about Chinese people. It's really hard for people who live with the societal shame of mental illness to talk about depression or being bipolar. Casually using "crazy" signals you may be unaware of the sigma.

Try replacing "crazy" with "surprising" or "unsafe". I did that and found that my language was more clear, and supported people who are neurodiverse or have mental health issues.

I will take that. I will not take the xenophobia thing.

I had two Asian folks call me on your retweet. You may not have intended it to be racist, but it was seen as spreading stereotypes. I respect their lived experience to identify what is harmful to their community.

This is the most insane need to get offended by nothing I've ever seen on Twitter.

Are you saying there’s no legit non-clinical definition of “crazy”? I think a few dictionary editors might disagree with that.

I'm saying people overuse the term "crazy" as a slur to pass judgement on situations that have nothing to do with mental health.

I understand, but it’s also my understanding that there is a legitimate definition and use case that has nothing to do with mental health. You’re saying no?
